What it is
Claude Sonnet 4.6 is Anthropic's balanced text model, offering strong capability at faster speeds and lower cost than Opus. It handles instruction following, structured output, reasoning, and creative generation well. On PlugNode, Sonnet 4.6 is available on the Text node. Select it from the dropdown, set a system prompt and user prompt, and the node returns generated text. It is the default choice for most production flows where you need good quality without the cost of Opus. The same Text node also offers Claude Opus 4.7 for peak capability and Claude Haiku 4.5 for maximum speed.
What you can do with it
- Generate text from system and user prompts with strong instruction following
- Produce structured JSON output for downstream node consumption
- Write scripts and briefs that feed into Image or Video nodes
- Handle reasoning tasks at a balance of speed and quality
- Summarize, rewrite, and transform text inputs
- Wire into HTTP Trigger and Respond to Webhook for a public API
- Switch to Opus 4.7 or Haiku 4.5 via dropdown
Where Sonnet 4.6 fits
Claude Sonnet 4.6 is the default recommendation for most production flows. It generates text fast enough for real-time webhook responses while maintaining quality that holds up in customer-facing output. For flows that run at volume — content pipelines, classification endpoints, extraction jobs — Sonnet gives you good economics without sacrificing instruction following.
Upgrade to Opus 4.7 when the task is complex enough to benefit from extended thinking. Downgrade to Haiku 4.5 when latency or cost dominates and the task is simple (classification, short extraction, routing).
Switching between models
The Text node dropdown lists all Anthropic models alongside OpenAI and Gemini alternatives. Switching is a dropdown change; no downstream node needs to change because the output type is the same regardless of model.
Run it on PlugNode

You pay Anthropic directly at their published API rates. PlugNode does not add a per-token markup. Sonnet is priced between Opus and Haiku.
